The What & The Who

Who is Krissy Fernandez?

Krissy Fernandez was born in Baguio City, Philippines where she was raised until the age of six, when her family moved to Guam. She spent most of her days doodling, daydreaming, and chasing cats. Although she lived in a tranquil, sandy paradise, she was always in search of personal enrichment through independency and blind exploration. As the urge to venture the world grew stronger upon completing high school in 2004, she booked a flight to San Diego without hesitation (or money in the bank afterwards) to see where life would take her.

Krissy shares her experiences and invites you on her journey through her art. Her hazy, enigmatic visual narratives can be viewed as self-portraits as it is personal stories and life lessons that are reflected on, therefore producing an intimate documentation of her life. Each painting provides an opportunity to confront fears and dissect issues, and ultimately grow in the process. Nostalgia, whether comforting or tormenting, and current engagements, which thrive on the subtle humor and ironies of life, are all called upon as inspiration for her art.

Krissy still resides in sunny San Diego, where she continually practices multiple art forms. Currently, she is the Principle Fashion Photographer for MahalStyle.com while showcasing her oil and digital paintings in numerous exhibits all over Southern California. She plans to someday relocate to Europe where there are infinitely more cats to chase.

She also enjoys writing in 3rd person.

What is Junk & PO?

The name Junk & PO derived from a word play of the game Jan Ken Po, commonly known as Rock Paper Scissors. Just as the game is based on choosing a tool to overcome your opponent, Junk & PO utilizes an analogous mentality throughout the creative process — with “tools” being various art mediums and “opponents” being self-expression and effective communication.

Junk & PO represents a surge of creative energy coming from all outlets of artistic practices. Including, but not limited to: paintings, illustrations, photography, graphic design, jewelry design, and sculpture, Junk & PO is the embodiment of the endless possibilities of personal expression to enrich one’s soul and intellectual being. It is also a collection of many things reminding us not to take life so seriously! All art forms are embraced to aid the inventive process and the exploration of ideas inspired by the clash of classical and Low Brow art and similarly, the integration of digital technology in our once predominate analog art world. Of course, inspiration is also found in hip hop, fashion, the awkward & obscure, cute & creepy things, irony and life. Through extensive study and practice, Junk & PO has gained astute knowledge of multiple disciplines as well as consideration for rules and boundaries. Nonetheless, Junk & PO exhibits a raw style that is constantly changing and evolving with the artist’s current state of mind, whatever that may be.

In 2008, Junk & PO emerged as an official San Diego small business, primarily selling jewelry and art prints worldwide. As the artist continually grows, Junk & PO inevitably also grows with new products and services — but more importantly, more smiles from happy art aficionados, clients, and friends.
